I love doing drywall - No One, ever.
Lets face it, I don't know anyone that likes to do wall repair, but almost everyone needs to. Small patches are some of the most common, so I can't believe that it took me so long to finish my video on that. Here is that video and our Amazon link for the patch used in this video.
When you watch that video you will see that I don't like sanding. Professional drywall finishers don't like it either. They apply the joint compound with the purpose to minimize sanding. So should the DIY'er. Let me tell you a little story of a patch job gone wrong. I was remodeling a bathroom and the customer decided that they would patch the nail / molly holes in the hallway. So they filled all the holes with a heavyweight spackle. Well, they overfilled and that's where it started. Then because they were overfilled they decided to use a power sander. I came back from the weekend to find a fine dust all over and a film on the hardwood floors. Then I saw vacuums and multiple mop buckets out. I can only guess how big the dust storm was.
I grew up doing drywall with my dad over my summers. So let me give you some advice. You need a couple of things to be able to do drywall right. You need to have a cool head. If you start to get frustrated, then it will show up on the wall and only get worse. Use the right tools. If you buy professional tools, then you at least have the potential to get it done right. If you buy crappy tools, then that's all you have. Also, follow the tips that I give you here. Wait a tic, I know that some of you are like what about larger drywall repairs. Like the boys were wrestling and went through the wall. Here is a drywall series that can help you out with that. It is a little longer, but should be able to help you out from start to finish.
I know that I said that you need the right tools for the job. So I won't leave you hanging with that either. Here are Amazon links to just about everything that I talk about here. It should be more then enough to get you started on your wall repair journey. Using these Amazon links also helps support this website. Thank you and good luck.
