To Drone or Not To Drone?

That is the question, isn't it? These little things are taking the world by storm, and why not? They are tons of fun and can do lots of different things. I think, first, I need to take away some fears with some facts. Personally, I am not that fond of the name drone because many people think Predator Spy Drone when you say that. They think that the drones are out to get them, but that's not true. Sure, there is going to be that one random peeping tom that will try to catch you sunbathing in your backyard or changing through your window. That hasn't changed since the beginning of time, and is likely to not change anytime soon. So, for those of you out there that know nothing about drones let me first give you a few facts. They really are more of a multi-rotor copter then they are a drone, drone is just easier to say. Many drones don't even have a camera at all. Those that do have cameras, the cameras are wide angle view, not multi time zoom spy cameras. What that means is that unless the drone is close by, meaning like within 20 to 30 feet, then you really can't see any close detail. If you have ever used a GoPro, then you know what I mean. On top of that drones make a bit of noise, they are not stealth craft. So you should be able to hear it coming. That coupled to the fact that most drones barely have a ten minute run time, the more expensive ones touch twenty minutes, they can only fly so far and stick around for even less. Since people fear what they don't know, hopefully you feel better. If you are curious about getting one of these craft let me first tell you to check out your local hobby store, not a  big box store. You might be tempted to grab one off the shelf while you are there getting other items, heck, I was at Home Depot the other day getting paint and they had a stack of them in the center aisle and we are 4 months from Christmas. The reason why I say go to the Hobby Store is that first of all the quality of their drones are usually much higher for very little price difference. The other reason, which is really important, you can buy replacement parts. Sure, many drones come with a set of extra blades, but what about everything else. I have tried the big box store drones and after a couple of indoor crashes, it stopped working. So into the trash can it went. I said no more of that. I bought my son a micro drone last Christmas that has taken dozens and dozens of crashes and even been stepped on. I have had to buy some parts, but it still flies like day one.  I have a video where I put our two drones side by side so you can see the difference of a full size quad-rotor and a micro quad-rotor. There are more videos under my Product Review tab, then go to the sub-tab Drones.
