Traveling For The Holidays?

Traveling for the holidays is a very typical thing to do. So much that thieves bank on this. The last thing that you want to do coming back from Grandma's house is to find your home has been broken into. Even though there is not fool proof way to secure

your home, there are a few things that you can do to help cover your bases. Let's point out the obvious, make sure that all your windows and doors are locked. You might be thinking, "Well Duh", but you would be surprised to find out how many don't realize they have forgotten
that there are windows unlocked that would make easy openings for any thief. Kicking in doors is another easy, quick way to get in. Even a dead-bolted door is only as strong as the jamb that it is attached to. Above is an in-expensive and easy way to add a bit of strength to your jamb.
One of the other easiest ways to get into your home is through the biggest door that you have; your garage door. How many people know the keypad code? How simple is your code? I know more than one person that uses their address for the code. Some of you might be saying "what the
heck?!" Why would you do that. But you might not know that many builders use that as a code while the house is being built so that contractors can easily come and go. You might not know how to clear the code. Maybe you added your own code, but the address code is still there. And how many openers do you have? Could someone else have one? Above is a video on how to clear all the codes out of your garage door opener and reset it with only yours. I show the LiftMaster series by Chamberain which is also the same as the standard Chamberlain and most Craftsman openers. Doing these simple things are more effective then you think. Thieves are like any predator. Even though they want a good prize, they pick off the easy prey.

So, I hope that everyone has a safe and Merry Christmas.
